Abstract:The claystone from Permian Shihezi Formation in Sanling area,Handan, was analyzed for minerals by using optical microscope and electronic microprobe analyzer (EMPA),for major elements by using X-ray fluorescence spectrum (XRF) analyzer, and for trace elements by using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) analyzer. The result shows that,(1) the claystone is composed of illite, quartz, pyrophyllite, chamosite and albite, with a trace amount of chalcopyrite, monazite and zircon, and such a mineral assemablage is similar to propylite;(2) the claystone is abnormally enriched in rare earth elements (REE),especially in light ones and some middle ones, which is probably the result from a hydrothermal action;and (3) it is valuable as a potential resource.
