Industry-characteristic universities are not only an important part of higher education with Chinese characteristics but also an important strategic force of the national scientific and technological innovation system. As a first approximation, this paper introduces the connotation and extension of the concept of such universities as well as the features of high-level ones. Then, it analyzes the new challenges faced by the industry-characteristic universities under the background of double first-class construction from the perspectives of discipline structure, discipline characteristics, and evaluation system. Finally, taking Beijing High-tech University Union as an example, this paper provides some countermeasures and suggestions for the double first-class construction of the industry-characteristic universities: firstly, building world-class discipline based on the industry; secondly, optimizing the layout of disciplines and promoting disciplinary integration; next, cultivating industry leading talents on the undergraduate basis; besides, creating a first-class team of teachers via talents recruitment and team building simultaneously; furthermore, strengthening international exchanges and cooperation; lastly, inheriting and carrying forward the university spirit with cultural confidence.
