Humor has played an extremely important part in our everyday life.Many masters and scholars have studied humor in their own different disciplines.This thesis,from a pragmatic point of view,first discusses Grice's Cooperative Principles and its application in verbal humor.Afterwards,it tries to explain the humorous phenomenon from the cognitive aspect which is based on the Relevance Theory,and then elaborate the joke-making mechanism.
