The Catcher in the Ray is regarded as one of the most popular modern classics in American literature,and the hero of this novel,Holden Caulfield,also attracted a lot of critics' attention as soon as the novel was published.Holden was a 16-year-old boy who wanted to escape from reality and seek for sheltering in utopia because of the phoniness.This paper focuses on the image of the rye and the red hunting hat,which will reveal the hero's change—from a catcher to a hermit in the capitalistic society.
