Zhili is not only the cradle of the Boxer Movement,but also the center of the movement.The Boxer Movement always has the close relationship with the gentry.This paper analyzes the reasons that the gentry participates the Boxer Movement,their reactions in the early and climax phases,and the preliminary discussion of the reasons for diversion in the later phase of the movement.This paper concludes that Yihe gentry should be taken as a progressive force during the period of the Boxer Movement.
