When Ai Qing was enrolled in the work-study program in Paris, Cubism, Futurism ana uaaalsm were waning rapidly, while Surrealist was in its ascendant, regarding Rimbaud, Appolinaire as its pioneers. Ai Qing didn't systematically learn and read French literature and other European literature, but the early poems of Ai Qing were greatly influenced by Symbolism, Cubism and Futurism, in particular, Apollinaire and other Cubist poets. In fact, Ai Qing preferred Marinetti, Mayakovsky, and other Futurists.
