Abstract:In the novel Lolita of Vladimir Nabokov,Humbert is an extreme individualist and an artist. His aesthetic pursuit is dramatically contradictory: on the one hand,it consoles his psychic trauma and gives him meaning of life;on the other hand,it plunges him into survival dilemma and leads to his self-destruction.His story proves the truth that anyone in the real world,if his aestheticism defies ethic morality, will end up in the pain of psychic exile without a sense of belonging.
