Abstract:Legal translation is one of intercultural communications which concerns legal concepts, legal norms and legal texts across different legal systems. It involves three fields of linguistics, law and translation. The differences between Chinese and western legal culture is the key factor influencing the legal translation. Therefore in the process of legal translation, the translator must be rooted in the cultural background, understand the basic content and the essence of the different legal cultures, so as to achieve the organic unity of the source language and the target language in legal translation. This paper tries to summarize three major legal cultural differences and its influence to legal translation, and then discusses some specific translation methods and strategies.
