Abstract:As the modern world ushers in the information age, the whole society is gradually filled with miscellaneous information, which has permeated into virtually every field and influenced our lives and study. To make society-needed talents out of the college students, various college English teaching activities have been held to improve students' competence to apply English adeptly, which can well increase students' competitiveness after their graduation and effectively nurture them to be excellent graduates. Nevertheless, there exist quite a few problems in college English teaching practice in our country on account of multiple factors; for example, students' interest in learning English needs improving. To better accomplish the goals of college English teaching, micro-course model, a brand-new teaching approach, is thus introduced and supplements the inadequacy in traditional college English teaching. As a result, this paper is dedicated to studying the practical measures of applying micro-course model in college English teaching, based on the background of micro-course, problems occurring in college English teaching in China, and the significance of applying micro-course model in college English teaching.
