Abstract:This paper discusses the problems and challenges in cultivating English majors in China from the perspective of national language capacity, and puts forward the corresponding countermeasures based on the experience of talent cultivation in the language strategy of Western countries. At present, there are several problems in the cultivation of English majors in China, such as a lack of overall planning for cultivating English majors, the mismatch between talent cultivating concepts and the talent resources development, and the serious shortage of international high-end English talents. In order to promote China's discourse competence in governing global affairs, China should formulate curriculum planning for English majors with national language capacity as the core, establish an English major cultivating concept compatible with the development of national language capacity, and bulid an English talent resource base with an international vision.
