Paul Ricoeur had a detailed philosophical interpretation of Freud’s psychoanalysis in his study on interpretation of symbol. Through interpreting symbol on dream, Ricoeur supplemented the interpretation of "unconsciousness" proposed by Freud, based on which he concentrated on exploring the symbolic structure of language and had a further understanding of language from the source. With an ethical view, Ricoeur concluded that "symbol leads to thinking" from his analysis of symbolic structure in myth and human psychological phenomena in early times. The close relation between symbol and ethics needs philosophical reflection, which provides solutions to modern problems for us. Ricoeur’s supplementary interpretation of Freud’s psychoanalysis shows the inclusiveness of his theories; meanwhile, it helps enrich the dimension of the interpretation of symbol.
