One of the highlights of the 2021 edition of Ideology, morality and the rule of law textbook is the addition of "picture illustration" auxiliary reading column in addition to the knowledge of the main part. This is not only the inevitable trend of the reform of ideological and political theory courses in the new era, but also meets the basic requirements of President Xi Jinping on ideological and political theory courses to be taught deeply, thoroughly and vividly. Accordingly, the reasoning art can be employed in the following aspects. To begin with, teachers can give play to the vivid narrative function of "picture illustration", and skillfully use the simple but profound persuasion art. Then, based on the complementary advantages of "image plus text", the infiltration art of "blending of reason and emotion" should be highlighted. Next, with the help of scene rendering of "picture illustration" elements, the sublimation art of role models should be chosen appropriately. In this sense, college students’ imaginal thinking and historical memory are aroused, and their strong emotional resonance and value identification mechanism are also triggered. Additionally, the true meaning of morality and rule of law are profoundly understood through analogical and real experiences of college students. In this vein, college students’ qualities are enhanced in terms of ideology, morality, and rule of law by means of mutual complement of texts and pictures, resource coordination as well as complementary education and teaching practice, thus realizing the fundamental purpose of cultivating talents with virtue and good morals in ideological and political theory courses.
